URBANISATION: A PREDICAMENT

The staggering growth of urban livelihood has always been a matter of concern for environmentalists owing to a varied number of reasons among which the increased deterioration of trees to stage the phenomenon of urbanization has been of major concern. Expansion of city life is said to have paved the way to the loss of up to 7.4 million acres of prime agricultural land every year.

AFFORESTATION: THE HIDDEN UNSUSTAINABILITY

The foremost solution to this problem would be planting more trees but it is easier said than done. To explain the unsustainability lurking behind this let’s present a hypothetical case.

‘We have over 140,000 trees in the urban Delhi landscape which stretch over 1484 sq km. While we assume it takes 2 minutes to plant one tree, and we provide water after every alternate day, we make up for 14000-man effort hours per week. To top that, the cost of fuel to cover an area over 1400 sq km and challenges with water spillage during transportation make this ultimately an unsustainable affair’

THE SOLUTION: OUR TREE INCUBATOR

We at BeeHappy believe that the very solution to this problem lies in our simple yet innovative ‘Tree Incubator’ which acts as a compostable ecosystem that could support the seedling in the ‘critical year of development’ which covers approximately one year without being dependent on any form of external irrigation.

As the reservoir of the system degrades and empties over time, the pits serve as micro-watersheds to collect water when it rains. In addition, the degraded deposit is converted into organic soil-enhancing substrate hence ensuring the uninterrupted growth of the sapling.
